The Moro reflex is a baby’s ‘alarm’ reflex – commonly referred to as ‘fight or flight.’ This is a startle reaction followed by a curl inwards (foetal position), triggered by intense stimulation to the senses (for example a loud noise or harsh light). This reflex should integrate (disappear) by roughly 6 months of age, however if it remains past this age it can be becomes an uncontrollable and problematic reaction in children and adults, who may overreact with aggression or overexcitement to seemingly normal situations (including many social situations). As the ‘fight or flight’ reflex sets off a rush of adrenalin, if the reflex is triggered many times a day it can put pressure on the adrenal glands which can lead to adrenal fatigue.
